I love this quote from “Sex and The City” about Menopause…

“Sex and The City”

Charlotte: in the ten years before menopause, you may experience symptoms including all-month long PMS, fluid retention, insomnia, depression, hot flashes or irregular periods…

Carrie: On the plus side, people start to give up their seats for you on the bus.

Menopause is such an individual experience – what you go through and what your mother goes through may be completely different. Some may experience symptoms like Hot Flashes, Insomnia, Vaginal Dryness, Irregular periods, Joint Pain & Loss of Libido. Here are some quick fire tips for managing Hot Flashes & Joint Pain. I hope this helps.

What are Hot Flashes?

A Hot Flash is when suddenly your body temperature rises 7-8 degree, you then start to sweat and your face reddens. Hot flashes are your body’s response to lowered estrogen levels. They last about 2 – 3 minutes at a time and your body returns back to normal within 30 minutes.

Tips to manage Hot Flashes:

- Dress lightly and wear natural fibres. Synthetic fibres trap heat and perspiration during a hot flash, making this symptom even more uncomfortable. Natural fibres such as cotton or wool will give your body more ventilation, and keep it cooler.

- Exercise at least 30 minutes every day. You can walk, run, ride a bicycle, or do another activity. Just don’t exercise within 3 hours of going to bed to help prevent night sweats.

- Avoid triggers like caffeine, alcohol and spicy foods. For some women, emotional upset is a trigger too.

- Try slow, deep breathing to combat hot flashes

Joint Pain & Menopause?

Many women report suffering from Joint Pain during Menopause, which can be a scary and frustrating symptom. You may ask what the link is between the two – quite simply, estrogen is known to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body, and thereby reduced estrogen levels (as suffered in menopause) means a reduced ability for the body to absorb pain.

Tips to manage Joint Pain:

If you are experiencing joint pain is to first see the doctor and find out why it is it happening and taking their advice accordingly. You may want to also taking a look at your diet and consider natural herbal solutions. There are many good products on the market. See Nature’s Relief Glucosamine and Bee Venom Cream.
